OpenAI to merge ChatGPT and Codex usage limits into shared token-based allowance in December

OpenAI updated its help docs: starting in December, Plus, Pro, and Business plans will share a single usage allowance across ChatGPT and Codex as agentic capabilities of Work move into the main ChatGPT experience.
- Usage will be measured in tokens; consumption depends on the model chosen and task complexity, with advanced models and complex tasks drawing down the allowance faster. Instant chat won't count
- Users can see combined remaining usage and reset times in Settings → Usage; at the limit they can wait, upgrade, or buy credits
- OpenAI says most users shouldn't need to wait for resets more often than now
The poster laments this is bad news for heavy 'pro' model users, since token-hungry models will exhaust the shared pool much faster.
