OpenAI to merge ChatGPT and Codex usage into one shared token pool in December
VraserX · x · 2026-11-01
An OpenAI support doc shows that starting in December, Plus, Pro, and Business plans will share one usage allowance across ChatGPT and Codex, measured in tokens, as Codex's agentic capabilities fold into the main ChatGPT app. Instant chat won't draw from the quota; users can track combined usage in Settings → Usage and buy credits when capped.
Author VraserX dislikes the change, arguing heavy Codex usage shouldn't eat into ChatGPT allowance, and suggests keeping separate limits with an optional shared pool.
