Reddit's AI-slop decline pushes users toward private groups, not old-school forums

Commentary argues Reddit was already dying: it failed to filter AI-generated replies and SEO parasites, never shipped a decent AI product, and cultivated a culture closer to Bluesky.
The bigger worry: affected users won't return to phpBB/vBulletin-style forums but will retreat to private FB/Threads/X/WhatsApp/Telegram groups, Discord servers, and even private BitTorrent trackers — "people yap too much online, which ends up getting your stuff killed." A quoting post adds sarcastically that AI may turn the planet into gray goo, but at least it killed Reddit in the process.
