Photoreal human eye rendered in browser with pure Three.js shaders, no textures

Developer Gianluca Lomarco built a photorealistic human eye in the browser using Three.js — no photos, textures, or 3D scans, just math and 400 parameters.
- The iris is a 3D volume, raymarched by a shader, with light refracting through both sides of the cornea — so it shifts naturally as you orbit
- Colors come from a spectral pigment model; melanin changes yield brown, blue, green, and hazel
- It moves: the pupil responds to light, microsaccades jiggle the eye, and eyelids track gaze and blink
The author spent 7 days on this single eye, joking that everyone else is building worlds with Claude Opus 5.5 while he obsessed over one eyeball. Interactive demo available in the browser.
