One big tool call beats many small ones: MCP dashboard server cuts cost 2.7x in Claude Code
rohanbeingsocial · reddit · 2026-10-31
The author open-sourced Showboard, an MCP server letting coding agents answer data questions with dashboards over Postgres/SQLite/Excel. Key design: one 'draw' call builds the whole board (each chart carries its own SQL), reusable parameterized 'recipes' become tools without restart, everything read-only, and every number comes from a query. Result in Claude Code (24 answers each way): $1.78 vs $4.77 cost, 7.5 vs 24.3 min—savings come from collapsing 6-10 steps into 1-2 calls. MIT, on npm and in the MCP Registry.
