Google's Sprout: a plant robot powered entirely by frontier base models
DynamicWebPaige · x · 2026-10-31
A Google engineer showcases Sprout, a real Monstera on a TurtleBot 4 base with a Pixel face that autonomously roams the office seeking sunlight and checking on other plants.
The notable part: all capabilities come from base models out of the box — Gemini Flash for real-time vision and plant ID, Gemini Robotics ER 2.0 for spatial segmentation, Gemini Live for voice and personality, all via Google AI Studio APIs. Screenshots show per-capture plant disease diagnoses logged on a web dashboard.
