KV Cache explained with chai: why token 500 doesn't redo tokens 1-499
cneuralnetwork · x · 2026-10-31
A viral explainer uses a chai-tea metaphor for KV Cache: without caching, every new order requires re-brewing from scratch, including all previously served cups; with caching, the chai base stays warm on the stove and new orders just pour and sweeten.
In inference terms, generating the 500th token doesn't redo work for the first 499 — but the cache keeps growing, which is why long chats eat GPU memory.
