Open-source MCP server Professor Clippy lets agents reach you via desktop sticky notes and phone
geetbatth · reddit · 2026-10-31
The author open-sourced Professor Clippy, a local MCP server paired with a Windows desktop sticky note (featuring a little robot professor) that any MCP client on the PC can message. It's used with Claude Code but isn't Claude-specific.
Exposed tools
- leavemessage: drop a note on the desk
- remindme: ISO time with optional RRULE repeats
- askuser: blocks until the human answers (10 min default), with answer options as buttons
- checkreply, listpendingasks, answerpending
- listreminders, cancelreminder
- writepage, readpage, listpages: a shared Pad of pages; an agent can only edit pages it wrote
Interaction design
Only things needing a human (questions, reminders, urgent notes) pop up; the rest waits under an unread badge. After a few minutes away from the PC, notes and questions are mirrored to WhatsApp or Telegram, so askuser can be answered from a phone and the answer returns to the blocked tool call.
Everything runs locally (SQLite store, stdio MCP server); the only network traffic is an optional phone relay. Windows-only for now, Electron + TypeScript, mostly built with Claude Code. No installer yet: npm ci && npm run package.
