recurse: a fully local open-source agent harness that gives models a wait tool instead of sleep loops

Developer ebetica released recurse, a fully local agentic harness built on Pi Durable (MIT, 29 stars). His core observation: models "are kind of stupid and don't like ending their turn to wait for a background shell" — ending the turn is death in RL terms, which is why you see agents stuck in sleep loops.
The fix is an explicit wait tool for the model. recurse is deliberately minimal: a few standard plugins, with popular modern harness workflows implementable at runtime from these primitives. It's fully open source and ships only a web frontend — the author considers TUIs a relic.
