Anthropic rolls out Claude 'self-assessment', letting the model flag misuse after each reply
cephaloform · x · 2026-10-31
Anthropic announced a safety technique called self-assessment: Claude gives a preliminary safety assessment of the conversation right after each response. In use since June, it has surfaced misuse that other safeguards weren't designed to catch. Because Claude has already read the conversation it's efficient, and unlike classifiers targeting discrete harms it relies on the model's own judgment, improving as models improve. Details on the new Safeguards blog.
