David Baker Lab Preprint: Protein Design Cuts CD8⁺ T Cell Immunogenicity
gottapatchemall · x · 2026-10-31
A new bioRxiv preprint from David Baker's Institute for Protein Design at the University of Washington (first author Bingxu Liu, with Nir Hacohen of the Broad Institute) is titled "Function-preserving CD8⁺ T Cell Immunogenicity minimization through protein design."
- Goal: reduce CD8⁺ T cell immunogenicity of designed proteins for mRNA therapeutics or cell therapy while preserving protein function.
- Approach: use protein design to minimize epitopes that can be presented by MHC-I and activate CD8⁺ T cells.
- Significance: removes a key immune barrier for designed proteins used as in-vivo therapeutics.
Note: this is a preprint and has not yet been peer-reviewed.
