- Subvocal, a 3-person startup from YC's F26 batch, raised $1.3M from YC and Afore Capital for glasses that read the near-invisible muscle movements of silent speech — mouth moves without sound and text appears at over 200 words per minute, with no cameras or lip reading.
- YC partner and Google Photos co-creator David Lieb called it "the most insane demo I've seen" and noted the team built it in 4 months, demoing live at the YC office.
- The lineage goes back to MIT Media Lab's AlterEgo (2018): jaw electrodes recognizing silently articulated words at 92% accuracy, but only over limited vocabularies. AI is the key change, now able to turn body signals into open-ended sentences.
