French lawmaker Laurent Lhardit challenged VideoLAN's opposition to a digital tax amendment, saying the tax is capped and wouldn't apply to VLC, and told them to read the text. The VideoLAN account fired back that he doesn't understand free software economics, the difference between revenue and profit, non-profits, or security and updates, telling him he should be ashamed. The clash between the open-source community and legislators drew wide attention.
