Altman says having DRAM in your PC is 'quite terrible' — data centers use it better
ControlCAD · reddit · 2026-10-31
Sam Altman argued that, from a global allocation perspective, it is "quite terrible" for everyone to hold chunks of the world's limited DRAM supply in PCs used only 5% of the time. "You want maximum utilization in the cloud if you're trying to deal with this very supply-constrained environment. And somehow many people's intuition is the opposite of that." His remarks land amid surging DRAM prices driven by AI data center demand, and have drawn heavy pushback from PC users and gamers.
