OpenAI releases 700+ math manuscripts in one batch; Fortnow says it beats 30 years of progress

kimmonismus traces AI's shift from olympiad problems (gold-medal level as of July 2025) to genuinely open problems. On Oct 6, OpenAI published 700+ manuscripts from an internal model covering 373 groups of related results—about 9% of the 4,000 problems it posed—including a claimed breakdown of the Navier-Stokes equations in finite time. Fortnow wrote that if the results hold, theoretical CS saw more progress in 24 hours than in the prior three decades. A Riemann-hypothesis-related proof was called the most significant AI math achievement yet by Lichtman. Author argues this falsifies "AI lacks creativity," predicting 2026 as the start of a machine-creativity revolution (his own hyperbole).
