Paper finds context compaction doesn't hurt agent performance on frontier benchmarks
PandaAshwinee · x · 2026-10-31
A new paper tests whether context compaction is a significant roadblock toward AGI. Evaluations on PaperBench, ProgramBench and PostTrainBench show compaction has no measurable impact on performance — the tasks are surprisingly compaction-friendly, as agents readily reconstruct missing information from their environment. Compaction is a hurdle, but far less fatal than assumed.
