Google's Project Suncatcher satellite boots TPUs in orbit, Gemma model sends first response to Earth
The Verge AI · rss · 2026-10-31
Google says its TPU-equipped experimental satellite has generated and transmitted its first AI response from space: after booting the onboard Tensor Processing Units, the Gemma model answered a prompt with a haiku about being in space, plus other space-themed limericks and telemetry prompts. The test is part of Project Suncatcher, Google's initiative exploring AI data centers in orbit; the satellite launched earlier.
