Google to adopt IETF-proposed AI training control for publishers in 2027

Per Search Engine Roundtable, Google announced it plans to voluntarily adopt an IETF proposal creating a streamlined AI training control for web publishers. Based on the AIPREF working group's work, sites could express their AI training preferences across multiple AI providers in a single step via robots.txt instead of listing each provider. Google plans to implement this in 2027, following similar moves by Bing, OpenAI, and Anthropic, framing it as part of a shared commitment to an open, creator-first web ecosystem.
