METR footnote explains delay in OpenAI misalignment-monitoring stress-test report: patch period
CFGeek · x · 2026-10-31
METR's earlier report revealed that from July 21 to August 11, a METR employee and a Redwood Research employee ran a three-week pilot high-access exercise to stress-test OpenAI's internal misalignment monitoring system, producing a 61-page internal report shared with OpenAI researchers and security staff.
A new footnote addresses questions about publication timing: the delay stemmed from staffing constraints at METR and Redwood, publication coordination, and a remediation period requested by OpenAI to patch flagged vulnerabilities.
