Google to inject multiturn ads into AI Mode follow-up queries as search ad growth slows

Per CNET, Google admitted on its earnings call that search ad revenue growth slowed in Q3 as queries shift to AI Overviews and AI Mode, which suffer from "lower monetization." To compensate, Google is scaling AI Mode ads to 10 new countries (Australia, Canada, India, Kenya, Singapore, etc.) with Brazil, Mexico and the UK coming later this year. In the US, "multiturn ads" will appear directly in AI Mode follow-up queries when there's "commercial relevance." SEO expert Lily Ray says users will have to "dig deeper and look outside of Google's products" to find preferred publishers.
