North Korea-linked hackers drain $6.36B from Binance in 20 minutes, largest crypto theft ever

TRM Labs attributes the largest crypto theft on record to North Korea's elite hacking unit TraderTraitor: on October 29 the attacker moved roughly $6.36 billion out of Binance wallets across ten blockchains, most of it within about 20 minutes — about 4x the $1.5B Bybit hack of February 2025. Binance confirmed the incident and suspended withdrawals on several networks.
- On Ethereum, the attacker used an EIP-7702 delegation to turn a Binance hot wallet into a controlled sweeper with 50 pre-signed authorizations; wallets on the other nine chains sent funds via ordinary signed transfers, pointing to a compromise of Binance's hot wallet signing infrastructure.
- Tether, Circle, Ripple and World Liberty Financial froze about $2.67B in stablecoins, and Arbitrum's Security Council froze 8,426 ETH and 74.6M ARB — roughly $2.7B total. The attacker raced the freezes by selling USDT to market makers and borrowing ETH on Aave, now holding over 420,000 ETH and 18,270 BTC ($2.4B) beyond any issuer's reach.
