A developer released PokeBrawl, a free and open-source real-time 3D Pokémon battle game where you directly control your Pokémon, dodge attacks, and fight with four recharging moves — against AI or in online 1v1.
Key practices that made it work:
- Every mechanic has a built-in test: 25 tests plus AI-vs-AI battles so breakage shows up immediately
- Real data instead of hallucinated rules: moves, abilities, stats and learnsets come from Pokémon Showdown and Cobblemon data — 79 moves and 22 abilities so far
- ENet for online play, Godot 4.7 for everything
Non-profit fan project using Cobblemon assets (CC BY-NC 3.0, with permission).
