Ethan Mollick: AI slop is killing discussion for anyone building a reputation online
emollick · x · 2026-10-30
Wharton researcher Ethan Mollick reflects on how AI-generated content is degrading social platforms. As a large account holder, he says the loss of community quality is real but not a disaster for him — he can still broadcast to followers and interact with those he follows.
The real damage falls on people trying to start discussions or build a reputation from scratch, as AI slop crowds them out. He adds that LinkedIn's comment quality is now comparatively better, even though LinkedIn is also struggling with AI content.
