Anthropic's Self-Assessment: Claude Flags 94% of High-Priority Misuse at 1% FP Rate
rohanpaul_ai · x · 2026-10-30
Anthropic's Safeguards team introduces self-assessment: Claude gives a preliminary safety assessment of each conversation right after responding.
- Results: On Claude Fable 5, it flags 78% of conversations a stronger prompted classifier marks as potentially harmful, and 94% of high-priority ones, at a 1% false-positive rate.
- Scales with intelligence: since the model that had the conversation assesses it, quality improves as models improve.
- Efficient: the conversation is already in KV cache; assessment takes a short instruction and a few output tokens.
- In production: since June it has surfaced large-scale misuse missed by other methods and added a layer to defense-in-depth.
