Know, then Draw: UCSD & Adobe Cut Image-Gen Training Compute 48x While Boosting DPG-Bench 10%
Yucheng Mao · hf · 2026-10-30
Researchers from UCSD and Adobe Research propose a new learning paradigm for text-to-image generation: autoregressive pretraining to learn semantics ("know"), followed by diffusion post-training for rendering ("draw").
- 48x less training compute vs. a 2B baseline
- 10% higher DPG-Bench scores, beating SD3 Medium, PixNerd, BLIP3o-4B, and SeFl-image-5B
- Shows favorable scaling behavior, enabling efficient, high-quality visual generation
