Dave Winer revives Frontier from a 2014 backup using Claude Code, now with SQLite odb
Scobleizer · x · 2026-10-30
Dave Winer announces Frontier is rebooted in 2026: he taught Claude Code to port the system from a backup taken in 2014 into an Electron app (also headless). The outliner was reused, but everything else is new JavaScript code. The imp object database now runs on SQLite, giving Frontier SQL integration it never had, and new glue-script tables enable programming Mastodon. Scobleizer credits Winer for decades of helping people publish on the web.
