Where's the superconductor benchmark? Reddit argues it's the ultimate AI for Science test
Pablogelo · reddit · 2026-10-30
The author argues that while AI-for-science often targets proteins, one of the highest-value engineering goals — superconductors — lacks an AI benchmark. The highest-temperature superconductor at ambient pressure sits around 150°K, leaving a large material space to explore up to room temperature (293°K). Finding materials that superconduct at higher temperatures would be "the best AI benchmark possible for engineering while providing the best benefit for humanity," and the post asks why nobody has built it.
