Scopewerk: Open-Source Rust App Puts a Hanmatek Scope on Your Desktop With MCP for AI Agents
debreuil · x · 2026-10-30
While trying to control an R-Net motor controller with an encrypted CAN protocol, a developer found via oscilloscope that the controller supports USB — then wrote a small Rust + gpui interface for it: "you can just do things."
The companion open-source project Scopewerk (MIT, macOS/Windows) turns the Hanmatek DOS1102 into a native desktop app: a full scope screen with every panel control, a two-channel logic analyzer decoding CAN, I²C, SPI and UART, a CLI, and an MCP server exposing ten tools so AI agents can read, configure, capture and decode measurements live. Pure Rust over USB, no vendor software, and it reads back every setting to verify what the firmware actually accepted.
