A researcher announced joining Google DeepMind to build a research program on the economics of AGI, releasing the first output, "The Economics of Intelligence," together with Andrew Koh and Shane Legg.
The project asks how and when capability improvements transform the economy: it defines thresholds of economic capabilities (e.g., minimal AGI) based on their transformative effect, then tracks how market structure, employment, and wages shift across capability regimes. It notes that AI agent capabilities have grown exponentially while broader economic effects remain under-studied.
