Erwin Coumans demos Piper arm real-to-sim pipeline, delegates perception to GPT-6-Astra
erwincoumans · x · 2026-10-30
Erwin Coumans, creator of the Bullet physics engine, shares his sim-to-real work on the Piper-NIST robot arm, with a pytinyopengl3-based real-to-sim view fed by read-only CAN joint feedback (5ms latency) and ZED camera marker detection (1.54px reprojection error). His first step: blindly delegate perception (real-to-sim) work to GPT-6-Astra, assuming enough simulation understanding to evaluate its output.
