Google admits AI Mode ads monetize lower than traditional search, slowing full rollout

Google's chief business officer Philipp Schindler said on the earnings call that ads in AI Mode have 'lower monetization' than traditional search, and strong AI Mode query growth weighed on revenue — contrasting with Google's earlier claim that AI Overviews ads earn the same as standard results.
Schindler stressed the trajectory is promising: ad experiments are scaling across AI Overviews and AI Mode to more users and queries, including multiturn ads in the US. Commentators read this as a sign a full switch of search results to AI Mode isn't happening anytime soon.
