CARD Tracks Real Contact and Forces for Dexterous Robot Manipulation, No Object Models Needed
JitendraMalikCV · x · 2026-10-30
Jimmy Dai's team introduces CARD (Contact-Anchored Retargeting) for dexterous manipulation. Most methods today rely on kinematics alone as the human-to-robot interface; CARD additionally tracks real-world contact and forces, enabling unprecedented dexterous tasks via tactile-reactive replay — all as open-loop rollouts.
- Scalable: multiple input sources, multiple robot hands
- No object models, no simulator, runs at 10 Hz
UC Berkeley professor Jitendra Malik endorses the work: contact is crucial for manipulation, and better contact/force estimation from human trajectories will strengthen the real2sim2real paradigm — "let humans be humans."
