Junction: a 2-week fab retreat in Bangalore to speed-run the semiconductor tech tree

- Japanese chipmaker Rapidus was founded in Aug 2022 and had a 2nm process on a pilot line by mid-2025. Asked why India can't replicate this, a professor answered with one word: talent—the tacit individual and organizational knowhow (dose-matrix optimization, litho defect ID, ultrapure chemicals, decontamination) takes decades to build.
- In response, the author is launching Junction: a 2-week fabrication retreat this December in Bangalore, flying in students from across India with Hacker Fab India to build equipment, design chips, and engineer processes. Applicants have built vacuum chambers for plasma physics, RISC-V processors from scratch, and scanning tunneling microscopes.
