DeepSeek V5 Names Found in Official Test File — Just Mock Data, Not a Release Teaser
AIFlow_ML · x · 2026-10-29
After "DeepSeek V5 spotted in the Harness code" went viral on X, AIFlowML dug into DeepSeek's public deepseek-harness repo to verify.
What's actually there
- provider.spec.ts lines 154-156 list three model names: deepseek-v5, deepseek-v5-open (requires Harness 0.0.1), and deepseek-v5-next (requires Harness 99.0.0-alpha.1), added in a commit on September 24.
What it is not
- The names sit in a fake model list inside a unit test, which only checks that the app hides models it can't run and prompts an upgrade when a model needs a newer app version.
- Verdict: the names are real and in DeepSeek's own code, but it's test scaffolding — not evidence that V5 is imminent. The "V5 leaked" framing overstates it.
