A job board on Cloudflare Workers free plan: three walls and the workarounds
sujingshen · x · 2026-10-29
The author runs DMtheFounder, a solo job board where founders post early engineering roles on X/HN, entirely on Cloudflare Workers' free plan (TanStack Start + D1) at $0/month. First wall: 10ms CPU per request vs SSR pages measuring P50 54ms / P90 206ms, causing Error 1102 under load. Fixes: full-page edge caching for anonymous visitors (caches.default, 5-min TTL, cache key strips utm and appends the deployment version via versionmetadata so deploys invalidate cache; logged-in users bypass), cutting CPU from 50ms to 1ms on hits, plus reducing rendering and queries on the homepage — declining the easy $5/month upgrade to see how far free goes.
