MIT Media Lab hosts ScienceClaw hackathon: 3 days building decentralized AI agent collectives for science
ProfBuehlerMIT · x · 2026-10-29
MIT Media Lab is hosting the ScienceClaw hackathon on Oct 30–Nov 1, 2026, focused on building decentralized collectives of AI agents that solve real scientific and technical problems.
- Format: 3 days, in-person, teams of 2–5, unlimited number of agents per collective; applications close Oct 26
- The challenge: teams must build a functioning agentic system — not just a concept — that tackles a hard open-ended scientific problem, and demonstrate results plus convincing validation or benchmarks
- Four challenge areas: decentralized infrastructure, real-world applications, physical agency, and open science
- Philosophy: collective members hold distinct knowledge and capabilities, coordinate adaptively, and leave traceable scientific artifacts and provenance without a central planner
- Sponsors include NVIDIA, Anthropic/Claude, Google, Formlabs, Nebius; the event is model- and framework-agnostic
