UK datacentre pipeline to hit just 7GW by 2030 vs 119GW in the US, report finds
ersatzben · x · 2026-10-29
A new report from sciworks offers the first detailed overview of the UK's planned datacentre capacity — how much, where, and when — plus signals about UK compute demand. The accompanying chart compares installed IT capacity 2015–2030: the US is projected to reach 119GW by 2030, the EU-27 22GW, while the UK trails at just 7GW.
Amplifier andrewjb calls it an astonishing contribution and argues the UK needs both greater ambition and massively improved buildout throughput. Figures are based on the S&P Global Datacenter KnowledgeBase Q4 2025 snapshot, calibrated for cross-region comparability.
