Scoring 342 US jobs for AI risk: office work at 94%, care jobs at 17%, and riskier jobs pay more
albertsimondev · reddit · 2026-10-29
A developer scored 342 US occupations on AI and robot exposure, releasing the method and a free CSV.
Key findings
- Office and knowledge work tops the list: customer service reps, office clerks, and software developers all score 94%; 60 jobs fall in the "Very High Risk" band, covering 25.2 million workers.
- Hands-on care sits at the bottom: home health aides, childcare workers, and nursing assistants score 17%; electricians (35%) and registered nurses (39%) are also well below most office roles.
- Reversing older automation waves, higher-risk jobs pay more: a median salary of $79,665 for Very High Risk jobs vs $51,030 for the 27 lowest-risk ones.
Method and caveats
Built on Frey & Osborne's 2013 automation probabilities, adjusted for current AI capability with AI-assisted scoring, and joined with BLS pay and headcount data. The author flags limits: occupation-level rather than task-level scoring, only 11 distinct score values, a rough single "expiration year" per job, and US-only coverage.
