Reddit debate: first-mover advantage won't save general-purpose agent startups from incumbents
yi111 · reddit · 2026-10-29
A Reddit post argues that within six months, many general-purpose agent startups will find their early lead temporary: features are reproducible, switching costs are low, and incumbents can bundle agents, subsidize usage, and skip customer-acquisition costs. Durable defenses require deep workflow integrations, proprietary data rights, a trusted niche, or consistently better results on valuable tasks — otherwise acquisition is a more plausible exit than becoming an independent platform.
