Why Chinese models tank on every Artificial Analysis update: benchmark overfitting, says researcher
teortaxesTex · x · 2026-10-29
Responding to why Chinese and open models crater on every Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index update, teortaxesTex shares AAII v4.3.2 and v5.0 charts and argues: Chinese labs hill-climb on narrow benchmarks exposed in the prior turn, while US labs expand the broader frontier. In v5.0, Claude Opus 5.5 leads at 58 while Kimi K3.1 Pro falls to 46 and Qwen3.8/DeepSeek V4.1/GLM-5.3 sink to 32-34. GPU-rich second-tier labs Meta (Muse) and Grok also tanked — weaker pipelines overfit the proxy. 'AA mainly measures utility. This isn't a conspiracy.'
