Developer says Claude Code audit uncovered 145,763 "deleted" iPhone photos in hidden cache

A developer running a security audit with Claude Code while backing up his iPhone says the tool flagged the PhotoData/Thumbnails directory, which contained over 146,000 files — all photos, videos and screenshots he had "permanently deleted" over three years.
He claims the cache included a 2023 visa passport photo, bank app screenshots with full account numbers, and private photos deleted right after sending — including items deleted multiple times. None were actually removed from the device, meaning any app with file access could potentially read them.
The claim is unverified, but it highlights privacy risks around residual deleted data on mobile devices.
