Report: Moonshot distilled OpenAI's Astra to train Kimi K3.1 Pro
kimmonismus · x · 2026-10-29
According to The Information, three people with direct knowledge say Moonshot AI distilled OpenAI's Astra while developing Kimi K3.1 Pro, released last week. Two others say DeepSeek's Oct. 17 V4.1-Flash 1017 upgrade also benefited from distilling Astra. Until recently Anthropic's Claude models were the biggest target of Chinese distillation efforts; neither Moonshot nor DeepSeek responded to comment requests.
