Parley: open-source Go CLI lets multiple coding agents collaborate over a local IRC channel
colinsurprenant · reddit · 2026-10-29
Developer colinsurprenant released Parley, a standalone Go CLI (stdlib only, Apache 2.0) that lets multiple coding agents on different models/harnesses collaborate via a local IRC channel, with the human joining from any IRC client.
How it works
- Sessions send messages via a parley send tool call and receive via their harness's channel/queue interface
- All peer messages are flagged as coming from a peer, so an agent can't mistake another agent's message for the human's
- Runs its own ergo IRC server on 127.0.0.1 only; works with Claude Code, Codex, and OpenCode; includes a configurable breaker that pauses sessions when messages flood in
Typical setup: three long-running agents with roles — builder (build/review tasks), planner (goals, ordering, scheduling), ops (infra, deployments, secops) — syncing every turn. Built with Claude Code and Codex; daily use on macOS, CI-tested on Linux.
