Kale: An AI Computer for Curious Kids by Designer Gabriel Valdivia
soleio · x · 2026-10-29
Designer Gabriel Valdivia unveiled Kale Computer, an AI device built for curious kids that follows each child's interests and turns them into real learning, with collaborators including Max Forsey, Tim Pietruski and Frank Chimero.
Hardware highlights (with DOS): a raised bump for comfortable drawing, a carry strap, a physical camera cover for privacy, and a built-in pen barrel. The tablet's Explore tab flips the encyclopedia model into question-driven discovery — a daily mix of questions across nature, history and art that personalizes over time, short picture-rich answers with follow-ups and hands-on activities, and an always-present "Ask Anything" pill supporting camera and voice. A companion app shows parents weekly progress across reading, science, writing and math.
