Databricks and Snowflake CEOs trade barbs on X over AI tokens and growth numbers

A public spat erupted on X between Databricks co-founder Ali Ghodsi and Snowflake CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy. Ghodsi pitched that Snowflake, "not doing this AI stuff," should buy its AI tokens through Databricks — citing OSS plus frontier models (OpenAI/Anthropic/Gemini/Grok) via Unity Gateway with smart routing, budgets and access control, and claiming customers cut token spend 30% in recent months. Yuchen Jin piled on, mocking that Snowflake's latest DeepSeek model is three months old while they ship OSS models on Day 0. Ramaswamy fired back demanding full transparency: "does 80% YoY become 65% when you remove passthrough inference?" The exchange, dubbed a "Kendrick vs. Drake moment," reflects the escalating rivalry over enterprise AI gateway and token distribution business.
