mcp-coatcheck: Open-Source Proxy Runs Slow MCP Tool Calls in the Background
Awacer · reddit · 2026-10-29
Developer emrehangorgec released mcp-coatcheck, fixing the problem where agents calling slow MCP tools (test suites, crawls, evals) either hit client timeouts or block the whole turn. MCP added Tasks for this, but almost no servers implement it yet.
- Sits in front of any stdio MCP server with no server changes: npx mcp-coatcheck -- <your server command>
- Calls longer than a few seconds return a ticket the agent collects later; Tasks-aware clients get real tasks, others get a job id plus a fetch tool
- Fast calls pass straight through
- Tested with Claude Code and mcpc; Codex and Cursor not yet verified
