Modular opens full MAX source: compiler, runtime, backends, royalty-free commercial use
ryanshrout · x · 2026-10-29
Modular has made the complete MAX source available—graph compiler, runtime, and hardware backends including CPU/GPU support—under a radically simplified license allowing royalty-free commercial products, plus community contributions. It caps a progressive opening: Mojo stdlib (2024), kernels/models/serving (2025), full Mojo compiler (August). Now within Qualcomm, Modular plans an alliance program uniting developers and hardware vendors. Signal65's Ryan Shrout hopes to test the cross-vendor claims against its PINNACLE benchmark.
