Study: ~24% of crawlable web pages now contain AI-generated or edited text
omarsar0 · x · 2026-10-29
A study of 5M+ crawlable pages (2019–2026) finds the share containing AI-generated or AI-edited text rose from near zero before 2022 to 24% by August 2026, with growth accelerating from 4.6 to 8.1 points per year. About four-fifths of growth comes from pages at the edge of the web graph; the most central pages are least likely to contain AI text. English and .com pages lead, .gov/.edu lag. A Bayesian model corrects detector false positives/negatives.
