46 model PM jobs are open but almost none use that title: $345K median base pay

After reading all 46 open "model PM" postings, the author finds almost none use that title—Google's Logan Kilpatrick publicly dropped his PM title for Member of Technical Staff, but the work persists under new names.
Key findings:
- Tencent has 10 openings and Anthropic 9; Alibaba 4, Apple and Google DeepMind 3 each
- Anthropic's 9 roles use six names: Research, Research (Code), Claude Science, Human Data Platform, Safeguards, Trust & Safety
- The job is the same six things: pick what the model improves at, turn "better" into an eval, read failed-run transcripts, write behavior specs, make the ship call, launch
- Pay holds up: $345K median posted base, up to $490K for OpenAI's Core Models PM
- Only 1 posting requires a PhD, 8 ask for Python/SQL, 76% ask for evals, median 5 years PM experience
Advice: search by the work (post-training, evals, safeguards, human data, research PM, core models); your proof is one eval set and one behavior spec built on a model you already use.
