Will Anthropic's AI find cures? Scientist says the bottleneck is funding, not science
anshulkundaje · x · 2026-10-29
A scientist weighing in on Anthropic's life sciences work argues the company is shaking up rare disease research: many diseases are mechanistically understood with established genetic targets, and remaining uncured is often a biotech financing failure, not a science failure. Anthropic's edge is throwing VC-scale capital at problems academic scientists could never unlock alone—no startup with the same capital could exist. And the AI genuinely helps: it's already making scientists more productive, and every rare-disease program made cheaper becomes fundable.
